Acts 5:20 King James Version (KJV)

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

The apostles of the new testament were doing the work of God as Jesus commanded before He ascended. People brought their sick unto them, those tormented by impure spirits, and all were healed. The high priest and his associates, who were members of the party the Sadducees were very jealous of the apostles. More and more men and women believed on the Lord and were added on to their number. The high priest and his associates had the Lord, Jesus, crucified, with a sign over his head the read Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews. The sign is suppose to represent or say the crime they committed. This is the reason they are being crucified. This did not make the high priest and his associates look good at all, crucifying their King. The apostles were not worried about how it made them look. Before Jesus ascended Peter and Jesus had a talk.

John 21:15-17 King James Version (KJV)

15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Peter was feeding the sheep just like Jesus had asked him. Jesus asked him did he love Him three times. This was to remind Him of the three times he denied Jesus before His crucifixion. Peter was not going to mess up again. Peter had made a commitment to Jesus and he planned on keeping it.

The apostles spoke the all of the gospel. They did not leave certain parts out because it may offend a certain group. If people are truly preaching the gospel, it will offend some people because it will convict you of sin. The high priest and his associates were convicted by the truth of the apostles. They had an innocent man murdered because he went around preaching and teaching the gospel and doing good to all people. The high priest and their associates said Caesar was their King not God. Peter powerful sermon on the day of Pentecost cut the Jews to the heart about their shameful dealings with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:22-23 King James Version (KJV)

22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

The Jews, the high priest and his associates had been wicked. Wicked because they did not receive the truth and wicked because they tried to block others from receiving the truth. They were wicked to the apostles now during their time for having them thrown in jail for preaching the gospel. Nothing was going to stop these apostles from speaking the gospel. How many of us know that if God tells us to do something, He will make sure to move any obstacle or hindrance that gets in the way. We just have to persevere no matter how hard it gets. The apostles had been thrown in jail for doing what the Lord told them to do. This means that the Lord was going to have to get them out and that is exactly what He did.

Acts 5:19-20 New International Version (NIV)

19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”

God brought them out of jail and told them to go back to exactly what they were doing before, preaching the gospel.

Acts 5:25-32 New International Version (NIV)

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them.

27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”

29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. 31 God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. 32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

Don’t worry about what to say when you are brought up before councils, governors, or kings for Jesus sake. God will give you what to say.

Matthew 10:19 King James Version (KJV)

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

Peter by the aid of the Holy Spirit spoke boldly to the Sanhedrin. Peter was determined to obey God. God is not teaching us to be unruly and not to disrespect the authorities of the earth but when it gets in the way of the gospel going forth, it is better to “obey God rather than man” (Acts 5:29).

God has asked his church to preach this gospel in season and out of season.

2 Timothy 4:2 King James Version (KJV)

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Preach all, all of it, not part and not half, old testament and new testament.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

All scripture is good for teaching. Not one part of it is bad. If people think this about the scripture than their must be a sin that people are holding on to and not willing to let go. As Christians we may find ourselves in sin sometimes and will quickly seek repentance from God but we do not live a lifestyle of continual unrepentant sin.

1 John 3:7-10 English Standard Version (ESV)

Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

If the scripture convicts us of sin, we need to seek repentance of God and make it right with Him.

There is a penalty for unrepentant sin.

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 English Standard Version (ESV)

in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

John 3:15-18 English Standard Version (ESV)

15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Speak the Word and let the Word of God draw those who will come to Him.

Prayer: Father in your Son Jesus name I ask Lord that those who do not know you reading this letter would receive what you so graciously give; eternal life. Father let them realize that the gospel is the truth and God is telling them the Word because He loves them. Father let them know that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). There is a penalty for unrepentant sin. Jesus paid this penalty when he died on the cross for our sins. Just receive Jesus payment for sin and begin a new life in Christ today. Just receive and accept Jesus today as Lord and be made a part of his wonderful glorious family.

Amen
